The Pages Editor is another option for managing and requesting your website content translations. Unlike the Visual Editor, the Pages Editor acts more as a "library" of sorts, where the whole website is mapped and the several content chunks listed extensively.
Understanding the Pages Editor
The Pages Editor lists all the text content (also known as chunks) that has been detected on your website. This is where you'll manage your website's translations.
To get around the editor, you have two main options:
- Website Structure View: This is the default view. It shows you your content organized by your website's URL structure, making it easy to navigate page by page. Once you reach the last page to navigate, its respective content will be displayed.
- Content from All Pages: This view lists all content from every page on your site in a single, comprehensive list, regardless of its location.
Viewing Translations
The editor shows translations for one language at a time. To switch languages, just use the dropdown menu at the top of the page. You can also filter the chunks by their translation status or search for specific text content. The search function will show all partial matches.
For each chunk, you can:
- See its translation in the second column (or the original text if it hasn't been translated yet).
- Click to open the live website page where the chunk is located (by clicking the pin icon).
- Use the Context Simulator (for some chunks) to see how the text appears in its exact location on your website.
- View the date it was last modified.
- Confirm the translation status.
- (On available plans) Check the translation history and revert to a previous version if needed - more here.
What Do the Translation Statuses Mean?
Each translation has a specific status to help you track its progress. Here's a quick guide to what each one means:
- Created: The content has been detected but has no status yet.
- Never Translated: The content was crawled by our system but has not been translated, either manually or automatically.
- Translated by Machine: The content has only been translated by a machine translation service.
- Edited/Approved by User: The content has been manually approved by a user or edited in the editor.
- Sent via Translation Project: The content is part of a translation project and is not yet finished.
- Translated via Translation Project: The content has been translated by a human translator through a translation project.
- Translated via Import: The translation was added by importing a file.
- Excluded: The detected content has been marked to be ignored and will not be translated.
- Orphan: This content is no longer part of an existing page on your website.
Editing translations
Editing a translation is as simple as clicking the corresponding column and typing the intended text.
Your text may or may not already be translated depending on whether you are choosing to automatically use machine translation on your translation mode.
Once you introduced your changes, click Publish to apply them. Failure to do so will result in any changes not be visible on the live website.
Managing Translations
The Page Editor allows you to take several actions on your translations, including requesting new ones, approving existing ones, and deleting or reverting changes.
Requesting Machine Translations
To quickly translate selected content, simply:
- Select the chunks you want to translate using the checkboxes.
- Click the Machine Translate button.
You will be asked to confirm your request. This will apply a machine translation to any selected chunk that has a Never Translated status.
Approving Translations
When you approve a translation, you're marking it as reviewed and finalized. The chunk's status will be updated to Edited/Approved by User.
Deleting Translations
When you delete a chunk, the corresponding translation is not permanently removed. Instead, it's moved to an Excluded status. If you delete entire folders or subpages, they will reappear if you later navigate to them in the Visual Editor.
Reverting Translations
You can revert a chunk to a previous version by accessing its translation history (Plus and Pro plans).
- Click on the translation history to open a modal window.
- Find the version you want to restore and click the revert icon (a swirling arrow).
You'll be able to preview the version before you restore it.
Actions for Pages and Subpages
When you select an entire page or subpage, you have additional options:
- Human Translate: This will take you directly to the process of creating a Translation Project to get your content professionally translated.
- Count Words: This feature provides a word count for the source content within your selected page or subpage.
- Hide Translation: This action hides the existing translations on your live website. The original source text will be shown instead. Hidden translations can still be managed in the editor.
- Export: This allows you to export your translations in a supported file format.
- Scan: This scans the selected page or subpage for any new or updated content. It's helpful for getting a word count and statistics for specific parts of your website.
Additional Actions
On the right side of the page, you'll find a gear icon with three options for managing your translations on a larger scale.
Export All Pages
This option creates a comprehensive file of all your detected content. The file includes all text strings, their translations, statuses, and other properties. You can export this data in several formats, including PO, XLIFF, CSV, TMX, and JSON. The download will begin directly in your browser.
Import Translations
This is the reverse of the export function. You can use this feature to upload a file to add new translations or replace existing ones. The system accepts files in all of the same formats listed for exporting.

Scan Website
Selecting "Scan website" will initiate a scan of your entire site for new or updated content. This is useful for summarizing content that hasn't been translated yet. Since it's a full website scan, it may take some time to complete. Please note that this method does not scan content behind login pages or content that has been excluded.
